Updates from our Class Chair

February 2019 ( 2018 Giving Summary)

Our class really stepped up this past year and I’ve posted our results for 2018 on Facebook and sent them through a class email!  And, just to be sure we get the word out to everyone I’ve included the graphs below! I can’t begin to thank each company rep (Dan Merle, Charlie Baker, Bill Wardrop, Bill Schell, Hugh Tant, Buzz Smythe, Bob Lyon, Bill Thomas, John Grimm, Tip Hargrove, Stacy Timmerman, Sonny Holmes, Dan McQueeny, Claude Rountree, JC Dominick, Bob Stevens and Ed Taylor) for their efforts this past year!  Through their efforts, our participation percentage ended up at 44.3%.  An amazing effort by everyone!   Again, number ONE for our decade!

As I know our company reps are competitive, I will send the company giving percentages when Riviere gets back from her trip!  I know Kilo Company will be close to the top, but there might be some challengers this year!  A special shout out to Ed Taylor for taking over for Bob Millenbine and increasing Band Company’s participation!

My one goal (other than participation) was to increase our legacy giving and we will have a plan in place for you to consider this year.  If you have questions regarding legacy giving, you can always contact Jonathan Kresken ’87 or Bill Yaeger ’83 at The Foundation or our classmate, Dave O’Brien!  As an update on my commitment to add that to my Citadel giving, I have finalized my legacy gift and will be getting that paper work completed this month.  I hope you will consider your legacy gift as those “RMD’s” can either go to the ‘Dogs or back to the tax man!

On a personal note, thank you to those who have called or emailed me with questions about The Foundation and ways to make a gift to The Citadel.  It was great to catch up with you and I wonder why we have waited so long to make contact.

In case you are not on Charlie Baker’s email list, he has made plans for a repeat cruise for our class June 6-10th and trying to relive our youth!  I missed the first one and I’ve heard the ship was scuttled after the band of brothers from ’71 pretty much wore out the staff and bar on board!  Here is the info and please note the date to book your plans.  I know it is a really short time frame but see if these June dates work for you.

M.E.S. Travel is our booking agents for this Cruise out of the Port of Charleston and you will need to call them to book you cabin of choice and to make your deposits and payments. An Initial Deposit of $150.00 Must Be Made by Monday, February 11th if you want to go on this Cruise. Our Group name is ” ’71 Birthday Boys” and our Group Booking Number is 6KKP50.  Contact–Kathi or Nathan, 843-769-5386 or 800-441-3107.

In the next coming weeks, please look for our class letter that will have additional information on our 50th reunion campaign.  It might be a little wordy and repetitive but do take some time to read about our plans for our 50th reunion.

Here are the graphs that highlight our gifts and participation for 2018!

Again, I know I keep saying thank you, but it is important that you know your gifts are appreciated!

Go Dogs!
