Here are some interesting facts:
Matriculated – 631 (that figure comes from the 1967-68 BOV report to the SC Legislature)
Pictured in 1968 Sphinx – 481 SCCC, 8 veterans
Pictured in 1969 Sphinx – 383 SCCC, 7 veterans
Pictured in 1970 Sphinx – 361 SCCC, 16 veterans
Pictured in 1971 Sphinx – 379 SCCC, 30 veterans
Undoubtedly those numbers are not completely accurate probably because some folks didn’t get photographed. For instance, Bobby Lyon is not pictured but he certainly was with us all 4 years and he did graduate. If anyone saved a Commencement program, please pull it out and count the names.
If we use those numbers, we had 150 quit for a first year attrition rate of 24%.
Commissioning numbers uses the 1971 Sphinx:
Army – 143
Air Force – 134
Marines – 11
Navy – 4
That’s 77% commissioned; it’s 1/2 that now.
